Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., the garage punk better known as Jay Reatard, was found dead early Wednesday morning (January 13) in his Memphis home. He was 29 years old.
Reatard burst onto the Memphis music scene when he was just 15 years old, when a homemade demo of his caught the attention of Eric Friedl, the owner of local label Goner Records. In the late ’90s, he led the punk act the Reatards, then the synth-aided the Lost Sounds, and eventually went out on his own, with 2006’s Blood Visions. He signed with New York indie Mecca Matador Records in 2008, released a string of well-received singles, garnered his fair share of blog attention and toured the world. In 2009, he released the full-length Watch Me Fall.

Jimmy Sullivan (The Rev), “Avenged Sevenfold” drummer, died at age 28.

The drummer for the rock band died suddenly of unknown causes on Monday and an autopsy for his body is pending. Authorities who found him at his Huntington Beach house in California said it appears he died of natural causes.
The artist is survived by his wife, Leana MacFadden. The band left a message on their Web site about the drummer’s death on Monday leaving their respects for Sullivan’s family. A posting about his death on the networking site Facebook received more than 4,900 hits and comments in response.
The band “Avenged Sevenfold” began 10 years ago in Huntington Beach and became widely known in 2005 with “City of Evil.” In 2006 the band received the “best new artist” award at the MTV Video Music Awards for their song “Bat Country.” The investigation of Sullivan’s death is still ongoing.
