UIL Realignment Announced

Monday’s district realignment by the University Interscholastic League ushered in some drastic changes for local football and basketball teams.

Smithson Valley High School dropped a classification, and will move from 5A to 4A in both sports for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.

The Rangers now will compete in District 27-4A, where they will be joined by county rival New Braunfels Canyon. Rounding out the new district is Schertz Clemens, Lockhart, Buda Hays, Kyle Lehman and San Antonio Alamo Heights.

Monday also shook up the district schedule for the New Braunfels Unicorns.

New Braunfels will remain in the 5A classification, but now will play in District 25-5A, joined by rival Seguin, San Marcos, Cibolo Steele, Converse Judson and San Antonio Wagner.

The Canyon Lake Hawks will remain in District 26-3A, competing against Bandera, Boerne, Fredericksburg, Geronimo Navarro and Wimberley. San Antonio Hawkins also is in the district, but only for basketball.
