Amchitka - Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Phil Ochs

This recording of the 1970 benefit concert that launched Greenpeace (then so new the posters called it Green Peace) has three sets from Greenwich Village’s finest.

Phil Ochs is sturdy, though “I Ain’t Marching Anymore” is as topical as ever. James Taylor is at his most seductive, murmuring through “Fire And Rain”. Joni Mitchell is on fire, singing her heart out on the proto-environmentalist “Big Yellow Taxi”, previewing songs from the yet-to-be-released Blue to rapturous reception, and duetting with Taylor as “Carey” segues into “Mr Tambourine Man”.
