Snooki getting punched in the face VIDEO
The MTV show “Jersey Shore” was already gaining a lot of heat for its negative depiction of Italian-Americans. But now the reality show is now in even more hot water for a clip that shows lead character Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi getting punched in the face by a man identified as Lou Ferro, a gym teacher in New York City.
MTV previewed a clip of the punch in last week’s show. They had planned on airing the scene in the latest episode; they also intended on including a message against domestic violence at the end of the show. However, MTV released a statement on Friday saying they would not be airing the clip at all. The network said, “After hearing from our viewers, further consulting with experts on the issue of violence, and seeing how the video footage has been taken out of context to not show the severity of this act or the resulting consequences, MTV has decided not to air “Snooki” being physically punched in next week’s episode.”

It’s absolutely shocking that a man would be brazen enough to assault a female in this manner in a public place while he knows he’s being videotaped. What is even more shocking is that MTV was planning on airing it. We all know that teenagers are a large part of MTV’s viewership. I guarantee that a lot of male and female teenagers laughed when they first saw this clip. Most likely they joked about it and replayed the punch again and again. Unfortunately a lot of teenagers don’t grasp how serious the altercation was and only see it for its shock and entertainment value.
Is MTV regretful they even previewed the clip in the first place? Most likely not. I think they’re pleased they got so much publicity out of it and are hoping it boosts they’re ratings. They’ve already gotten the (negative) attention they wanted. Pulling the clip is a good PR move for them because now they look like a concerned network. If they really cared though, they wouldn’t have created a show that stereotypes an ethnic group, nor would they have used an assault against one of their stars as entertainment.
