Sarah Palin Newsweek Cover
Sarah Palin has gone rogue elephant on Newsweek magazine, declaring this week’s cover shot of her “unfortunate,” “sexist” and “oh-so-expected by now.”
In a post on her Facebook page, Palin blasted the magazine for using an old Runner’s World cover shot of her, saying “this ‘news’ magazine has relished focusing on the irrelevant rather than the relevant.”
She added, “The out-of-context Newsweek approach is sexist and oh-so-expected by now. If anyone can learn anything from it: it shows why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, gender or color of skin. The media will do anything to draw attention - even if out of context.”
The photo was taken this past summer for Runner’s World, for an August feature, “You Betcha! Why Sarah Palin is Still Running.” The Newsweek cover shot was for a piece, “How Do You Solve a Problem Like Sarah?,” with an underline, “She’s bad news for the GOP and everybody else, too.”
In a statement, Newsweek editor Jon Meacham said, “We chose the most interesting image available to us to illustrate the theme of the cover, which is what we always try to do. We apply the same test to photographs of any public figure, male or female: Does the image convey what we are saying? That is a gender-neutral standard.”
Meanwhile, Palin’s “Going Rogue” media tour continued Tuesday. She did interviews with Barbara Walters, Rush Limbaugh and the Christian Broadcasting Network.
Talking with Walters on “Good Morning America,” Palin emphatically ruled out reality TV, telling Walters “absolutely not.” As for going on David Letterman? No. But keep telling jokes, she said. They could sell books.
The White House question came up again . . . and again. Limbaugh wondered whether she would be a third-party candidate. Said she, “I don’t think America’s ready for that.”
Well, Walters wondered, do you want to be president? “That’s certainly not on my radar screen right now, [but] when you consider some of the ordinary turning into extraordinary events that have happened in my life, I am not one to predict what will happen in a few years,” she said.
