Arnel Pineda the Lead singer of Journey Band
Arnel Pineda was born and raised in the Philippines. His mother died at 13 and Arnel Pineda found himself alone, and living with relatives and fending for himself on the streets of Manila. His mother instilled in his her love of music. At a young age, he joined singing contests to improve his singing and to help raise money for the family. For two years he lived on the streets, sleeping wherever he could. Pineda earned money by collecting bottles, newspapers, scrap metal and selling them. He would do odd jobs where ever he could.
At age fifteen, he started a band with his friends. He started playing in clubs and events in the Philippines. His sung songs for their cover band and sang songs from Journey, Survivor, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, The Eagles, and Kenny Loggins. One of his friends made a video of Peneda singing and put it on youtube.
Neil Schon was looking for a lead singer for Journey after Steve Perry left, when he stumbled upon Arnel Peneda’s video. Peneda has been the lead singer of Journey ever since. Pineda has been on Ellen and was on the Oprah Show today to tell his story.
With Arnel Peneda as the lead singer for Journey, they traveled to Utah last summer to perform; along with Cheap Trick and Heart for Utah Summer Concerts.
This video explains his story:

You have an error in your comments about the current vocalist of the band calling itself “Journey”. He DID NOT replace Perry–Steve Augeri did. Augie was Per’s successor for 9 years before having to leave due to health issues. Aug is now back and working both with his old band Tall Stories as well as the members of the defunct NYC band Valentine–these guys are all friends of mine. After Augie left, JSS replaced HIM for a few months, then was fired. It was THEN that AP came on board. And he is simply a Perry wanna-be–Hugo V. would’ve been a far better replacement, but Schon didn’t want to look over and see a new singer who was a dead ringer all around for Per. Get your facts straight before you publish information like this. BTW–I was a Journey roadie for 6 years, from ‘81–’87, and knew the band very closely and well at that time.
